Advantages Of Using A Commercial Cleaning Company

Advantages Of Using A Commercial Cleaning Company

Commercial cleaning companies do cleaning projects all day, every day. They have all of the tools and equipment necessary to complete any cleaning project and can save you tons of time and energy. Commercial cleaning companies, like Hercules Services, are trained and highly experienced, and you can rely on them to complete even the hardest cleaning tasks. Here are a few advantages of using a commercial cleaning company!

1. They have all of the tools and equipment

Commercial cleaning companies generally own all of the tools and equipment needed to perform any kind of maintenance job. You won’t have to purchase any equipment, you can just call the company and they will show up to your location with everything they need to do the job! This is a huge benefit of using contracted maintenance companies. You’re basically saving yourself time and money in the long run. You will only pay for the contracted service fees, not the tools and equipment. It’s a great deal.

2. You can rely on a trained staff

Commercial cleaning company employees are trained in all aspects of maintenance work before being hired by the company. That’s why you can rely on them to be able to complete any kind of cleaning job. This also benefits you because you don’t have to do any of the training or pay for any of the training! Again, this allows you to only pay for the cleaning service fees and avoid any other payments. You are saving yourself a lot of time and money in the long run.

3. You won’t have to hire them as employees

Commercial cleaning company employees already work for a cleaning company! So, you don’t have to hire them as part of your own company. You’ll save time avoiding the interviewing and hiring process, and you’ll save money because you won’t have to pay for insurance and other benefits. All you have to do is contact a commercial cleaning company and pay for their services!

4. They will do a professional job

Commercial cleaning is a very broad area to work in, and that’s why commercial cleaning employees need to be trained in all aspects of the field. Considering some desks may contain more germs than a toilet seat. You can rely on them to do a professional job, every single time. You won’t have to lift a finger! The cleaning team will come to your location, set up their own tools and equipment, and complete the job in a fast manner. All you have to do is pay them for their services. Keep in mind that these workers are very experienced, and know exactly what they’re doing. You can sit back and relax, and know that the job will be completed professionally.

5. Less worry and stress for you

One of the main advantages of using a commercial cleaning company is relying on a contract maintenance team to complete your maintenance projects really takes the stress away from you. It’s a relief to know that professional, reliable people are going to come and take care of any maintenance problems that you have. Once you find the contract maintenance company that’s right for you, you will form a lasting relationship with them over the years, and you will be able to call on them from time to time whenever you need something. You won’t have to worry about finding new workers every single time you have a maintenance problem, which is a huge relief!

6. A great investment to make for your company

Hiring a commercial cleaning company to take care of your needs is truly a great investment to make for your business. Most people view cleaning fees as something negative, but really all you’re doing is making an investment for your brand.

Hire a commercial cleaning company today!

Hiring a commercial cleaning company for all of your cleaning problems is definitely the best way to go! In the long run, you will save time, money, and energy. You will also create a lasting relationship with the cleaning company, and you will be able to call on them for years to come. It’s nice to be able to trust the workers that come in and take care of the problems. The same workers will be coming in to fix your cleaning problems, and you will feel at ease knowing that everything is taken care of. It’s definitely less worry and stress for you! Hire a commercial cleaning company today!

A Clean Workplace: Coronavirus Tips

Make sure your workplace is clean and safe for employees.

Broadly, OSHA states that it is an employer’s responsibility to provide a clean and safe workplace that is free from known hazards. Usually, this comes up more in the context of exposure to occupational chemicals or bloodborne pathogens (especially for healthcare workers), but infectious diseases like the coronavirus pose risks to workers, too. There is no specific OSHA standard covering COVID-19, but some OSHA requirements may apply when it comes to preventing exposure to the coronavirus in your workplace. The closest analogy is probably a widespread flu outbreak, which OSHA has established guidance on in the past. Coronavirus is somewhat different and still less understood, but their recommendations can be useful to keep your workplace safe.

Protect against spread of Coronavirus

Promote personal hygiene. For example, provide tissues, no-touch trash cans, hand soap, hand sanitizer, disinfectants, and disposable wipes for employees to clean their work surfaces.

Educate on prevention. Provide employees with up-to-date info on coronavirus risk factors and protective behaviors, like cough etiquette and symptom assessment.

Minimize exposure. Consider ways to minimize physical contact between employees and with clients or customers, such as email, web conferencing, and telecommuting. Schedule work tasks in ways that decrease the likelihood of exposure. Reschedule, postpone, or consider making all-hands meetings and events virtual. Encourage ill employees to stay at home without fear of any reprisals.

Perform routine environmental and disinfection cleaning. Surfaces that should be regularly cleaned include: Workstations and desks, light switches, floors and walls, counter tops, door knobs, bathrooms, eating areas, and other touch points.

COVID-19 Safety Doesn’t Stop There

With so many people under one roof, it can be virtually impossible to maintain a clean and sanitary workplace without help. Let Hercules Services keep your office or other commercial property clean and germ-free with full-service commercial cleaning solutions. Contact us to get started today.

Cleaning for the Coronavirus: Protecting your Workplace

Protecting Your Workplace from the Coronavirus:

Cleaning for the Coronavirus is essential to help stop the spread of the virus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the coronavirus, or COVID-19, has been detected in 90 locations around the world, including the US. While the scale of the coronavirus outbreak seems daunting, it’s important to remember that we’ve seen similar global pandemics over the past two decades, most notably SARS and swine flu. As with each previous global outbreak, calmness and preparation can help minimize the impact.

Take Steps to Protect Yourself and Your Employees From Coronavirus

Encourage Sick Employees to Stay Home

The first tip is pretty straightforward: any employee showing signs of illness SHOULD NOT come into work. Actively encourage your employees to stay home if they have any symptoms of acute respiratory illness. They should not come in until they have absolutely no fever or other signs of illness for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or symptom-altering medication.

Perform Routine Infectious Disease Remediation

Now let’s talk about routine cleaning for the Coronavirus throughout your building. Everything in your workplace should always be kept clean and sanitary, but the need for thoroughness peaks when trying to prevent the spread of germs. Surfaces that should be regularly cleaned and disinfected include:

Workstations and desks

Floors and walls

Counter tops

Doorknobs

Bathrooms

Eating areas

At Hercules Services, we use state-of-the-art equipment along with traditional cleaning methods to provide a comprehensive cleaning solution for any type of office facility. Disinfecting is a fast and cost-effective supplement to standard cleaning regimens. Disinfectants are applied to surfaces in a thorough, even manner, regardless of the shape or angle of the surface in question. We clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces daily in workplace common areas (e.g. tables, hard-backed chairs, doorknobs, light switches, remotes, handles, desks, toilets, sinks). We only use products with EPA-approved emerging viral pathogens claims.

Turn to Hercules Services for a higher standard of professional cleaning care. Schedule a free walk through today and let us help make your building a healthier, safer, and cleaner workplace for all.

Recycling at your office

1.Make recycling as convenient as garbage:

Pair all waste bins (garbage, recycling and compost) together in a central location: This makes it easy for people to put their waste in the right place, keeping recyclables out of the trash, and trash out of recycling. Break rooms, kitchen spaces, and copy rooms are good locations for waste bins.

2. Purchase recycling bins:

You can purchase recycling bins through janitorial suppliers, home improvement or office supply stores, or other retailers. If you’re looking for small containers to fit under desks, search for “desk side recycling bin.” Or re-purpose existing containers, like copier paper boxes. Just make sure containers are well-labeled so it’s clear what goes in the bin.

3. Get the correct color:

When purchasing containers, aim for blue for mixed recycling, yellow for glass, black or gray for garbage, and green for compost.

4. Posters and stickers:

Use posters and stickers to label all recycling and waste containers. Posters are helpful above the containers and stickers can be used directly on the containers.

5. Talk with your office cleaning staff:

If you have desk side recycling bins, confirm who will be emptying them into the central recycling containers. In some buildings, employees are expected to empty their bins into the office’s large, central containers.

Check in and ask for feedback. Your office cleaning staff often knows when something needs improvement and can help you meet your recycling goals.

6. Educate employees

Label all waste containers with stickers, and waste areas with posters, that show what can and can’t go in each bin. Do spot checks to make sure non-recyclable items aren’t going into the recycling bin, and correct issues before they become a habit. Share information about what can and cannot be recycled.

With all the other things small business owners and entrepreneurs have on their plates, it can be hard to put cleaning and organization on the list of priorities. But these aren’t just “nice-to-haves.” An orderly and tidy workplace improves productivity, boosts morale and reduces absenteeism.

Go through papers, files and drawers and get rid of those things that are no longer needed or outdated

Here’s why you need a clean and organized office:

1. Higher productivity & accuracy. Cleaning and organizing is crucial to help employees do their jobs more effectively. Reducing germs in the workplace keeps your team healthier — which is important when you consider that employees experience a 50 percent drop in productivity when working while sick. Organization keeps staff focused. If you’re sitting at a desk where exactly what you need is within reach, you don’t have to go look for something. A few minutes searching for something at your work space or in the supply cabinet adds up over a week, but research shows the lost physical time is amplified by lost mental time. Researchers at Michigan State University discovered that interruptions that last a scant 4.4 seconds triple the rate of errors on the work we return to. So minimizing unnecessary distractions like looking for a stapler or a file boosts output and accuracy.

2. Fewer injuries. Having a safe place for everything, including office equipment, storage items, etc., reduces the likelihood that employees, vendors and visitors will get hurt and file worker’s comp and health insurance and even liability claims. Slips, trips and falls account for more than 9 million emergency room visits each year, according to the National Floor Safety Institute.

3. Lower absenteeism. Businesses lose 111 million workdays each year to the flu alone, according to the CDC. A clean environment helps promote better health. Dirt, germs, dust buildup and poor indoor air quality all contribute to colds, the flu, viruses, asthma and allergic reactions. So clean up those work surfaces, break rooms and bathrooms.

4. Accurate supply inventories. Organizing supplies lowers unnecessary spend and downtime. Keeping supplies in a central, organized location minimizes over-ordering. By some estimates, businesses with fewer than 5 employees spend up to $1,844 per employee on office supplies and furniture, software and technology, and cleaning and break room products. When you can easily see what’s in stock, you reduce duplicate orders and lost time from last-second runs to the office supply store.

5. Proper document storage & retention. “You never know when you are going to need certain financial records and other business data,” Weinman cautions. “Not having it could lead to legal repercussions.” Establish a records management system to properly retain important documents like contracts, receipts, tax returns, etc. It’s also important to make sure you’re storing sensitive information appropriately. The 2014 Cost of Data Breach Study in the United States calculated the cost of each lost or stolen record containing sensitive information was $201 in 2014.

How do you make a cleaner office happen? Make a plan! Not having a plan at the outset can create chaos and take more time than necessary. Our experts suggest a few must-have products to help you keep the office uncluttered, clean and organized all year long:

All-purpose cleaners & disinfectant. Both products, used simultaneously, will clean and disinfect any surface, thereby reducing germs. First, use an all-purpose cleaner to remove the dirt. At Hercules Services we prefers nontoxic, eco-conscious ingredients, free of chemicals. And second, apply a disinfectant to get rid of the bacteria.

Microfiber cloths. They trap the dust and dirt instead of releasing it back into the air. Microfiber is engineered to trap dust and dirt better than terry or other cloth materials, so usually less cleaning fluid is needed to be effective.

Cleaning vs Sanitizing vs Disinfecting

Cleaning

Cleaning alone is sufficient for some surfaces. Cleaning means to physically remove dirt, debris
and sticky film from a surface by scrubbing, washing, wiping and rinsing. Cleaning is done with
regular (not antibacterial) soap or detergent and water. These items do not need to be sanitized or disinfected.

Cleaning physically removes food or soil from a surface usually with the aid of soap,
water and some muscle power. Cleaning does not kill bacteria it removes soil and debris
only.

Can be done on any surface at any time.

Sanitizing

Sanitizing (after cleaning) is the proper treatment for most equipment and surfaces in an office or business setting. Sanitizing surfaces destroys enough germs to reduce the risk of becoming ill from contact with those surfaces.

Sanitizing takes cleaning a step further by reducing the number of bacteria and other
microorganisms.

Sanitizing can help prevent disease transmission, contamination and/or spoilage.

Sanitizers are strong enough to kill bacteria currently present on a surface, but is not strong enough
to leave a residue that will continue to kill germs into the future. When sanitizers are mixed correctly
they are non-toxic.

Sanitizers should be checked frequently to ensure they are the correct strength.

Sanitizing is required for all food contact surfaces.

Disinfection

Disinfecting (after cleaning) is the proper treatment for surfaces or equipment where safe contact
requires a more powerful response to germs. Disinfecting is the proper treatment for equipment
and surfaces that are involved with toileting and Special Precautions.

Disinfectants are a strong enough concentration that they kill all the bacteria on a
surface and will leave a residue on the surface that will continue to kill bacteria/viruses into the
future.

Dusting tends to be one of those tasks that as soon as you are finished, you have to start all over again. Dust comes in many forms and is generated from many different sources, making it important to stay on top of your dusting schedule. Dusting is an important task your employees need to do in every office building. Visible dust creates an unsightly work space, which people may translate into an image of neglect. A well dusted office building conveys a positive and pleasing image to all building visitors and occupants. A clean working environment also encourages neatness, promotes better work habits, and can reduce absenteeism. So why should you dust your office the right way?

Dusting 101

Dust high surfaces first and work downward. Start at one end of the room and move in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

Move objects such as phones, paperweights, and pictures, dust under them, and then replace them in their original position.

Wipe spots and smudges on walls, desks, etc. with a damp green microfiber cloth as you move throughout the office area. Remember to rinse the cloth when it becomes soiled, using only water.

When cleaning computer monitors or flat TV screens in the conference room, use a dry, microfiber cloth and lightly wipe. Never use paper towels, tissue paper, or window cleaner, they can scratch or damage the screen.

When dusting blinds, first dust across the top. Then close the blinds and dust the entire surface. Close blinds to the other side and dust the newly exposed surface area.

Finally, use a vacuum to remove dust and clean hard to reach areas and upholstered furniture.

Dust Your Office for a Healthier Environment

If your office space is dusty and unclean, it is much more likely to foster the spread of the flu and other diseases between your employees. This is another critical reason to dust your office. The airborne dust will also cause your employees with allergies to suffer from sneezing, sore throat, runny nose, and itchy eyes. When your employees feel sick because of a filthy office, they will need to take time off work to recover. If they are suffering from allergies because of a filthy office they will feel tired and irritated all day long at work and they will not be very productive. Keeping your office clean will avoid this so that your employees stay healthy. Employees who are healthy and happy are more productive and perform better work.

Office Deep Cleanings – How Important Are They?

Regular office deep cleanings are sometimes overlooked as necessary. However, they are important, just as regular spring cleanings are to the homes we live in! Employees spend much time in their offices. Would we not want them to be regularly deep cleaned? Offices and work places are shared spaces. Germs have easy transfer opportunity from space to space and person to person. Thus, the standard cleaning rotation is likely not enough to truly keep your office clean. Do regular house cleanings take the place of spring cleanings? No indeed.

Office Deep Cleanings – From Top Down!

Office deep cleaning should utilize a top-down cleaning approach. Your cleaning company should recommend starting high, even via ladder work, and ending with floor cleaning. For example, start with dusting, wiping, and/or vacuuming light fixtures, ceiling corners & edges, fans, and the like. Next, mid-level dusting and damp wiping should take places such as walls, wall art, signs, sconces, etc.

Next, touch points and horizontal surfaces should be cleaned. A sanitizer or disinfectant should be considered. Thorough damp wiping of desks, tables, hard surface furniture, and the like should take place methodically. Having staff remove all personal items from desks and shelves will allow for the best cleaning possible. Don’t forget washing window blinds, shades, and partition glass as a part of the deep cleaning program. Further, sanitizing high touch point devices such as phones, keyboards and mice should occur.

Kitchenettes and bathrooms should also be completely deep cleaned utilizing a top down approach. Your cleaning company should have trained staff to understand how to avoid cross-contamination and utilize the proper cleaning supplies. For your kitchenettes, a food preparation safe disinfectant should be used on cabinet fronts, handles, microwaves, counter tops, sinks, eating tables, and so forth.

Finally, once all high and mid-level cleaning is complete, floor work can commence. Carpets should receive regular professional cleaning via steam extraction or other industry approved methods. Floors should be thoroughly dust mopped and/or vacuumed and mopped. Also, a floor disinfectant can also be utilized given the environment.

How Often Should Office Deep Cleanings Occur?

How often should your office be deep cleaned? Monthly? Quarterly? Annually? The answer is as regular as your business calls for! Here are factors that can contribute to how often an office building, office suite, or even small office should be top-down deep cleaned:

Foot Traffic: How many employees work in the office? How many visitors do you have each day? More employees and/or more visitors can warrant more regular deep cleanings.

Type Of Business: Are you a small business office with little to no visitor traffic? Conversely, are you a large medical office with a heavy rotation of sick patients entering and exiting? Again, the latter would require a larger quantity of deep cleanings.

Seasons: Cold and flu season can spawn the need for additional sanitizing cleans. Also, winter season with rain, snow, and muddy foot traffic can certainly generate the need for extra cleaning.

Thus, how often truly depends on a combination of factors. Many offices and business spaces choose to have their offices deep cleaned on a quarterly or possibly semi-annual basis. Furthermore, some high traffic medical offices might have their buildings deep cleaned on a monthly basis. Your professional cleaning company can offer guidance for your particular scenario.

Hercules Services
Ways to Protect Your Office Against the Flu with Office Cleaning

Ways to Protect Your Office Against the Flu with Office Cleaning

The flu is a productivity killer for commercial offices. It’s important to protect your office against the flu. According to the Centers for Disease Control, U.S. employees miss 17 million days of work each year because of the flu, which costs employers an estimated $7 billion in lost productivity.

For most offices, an outbreak of the flu can throw all momentum off course. Fortunately, there’s a relatively simple solution: Regular commercial cleaning and disinfecting.

Disinfecting your work space is one of the most significant ways to protect your office against the flu. In fact, routine cleaning is something the CDC recommends for controlling the spread of influenza in schools, which can be applied to commercial work spaces.

Beyond routine cleaning, though, there are steps every office can take to protect against influenza. Here are a few of the most important steps offices can take to stay healthy and clean during flu season:

Practice Basic Hygiene to Prevent the Spread of Germs

Simple hygiene can go a long way to preventing the spread of influenza. Here’s why: On surfaces, the influenza virus can infect people for up to 48 hours, according to the CDC.

Promoting good hygiene can thus slow the spread. The OSHA highly recommends offices and critical environments follow some basic protocols, including:

Encourage employees to stay home if they’re sick

Providing hygiene educational materials during flu season

Wash hands regularly

Provide hand sanitizer to employees in multiple locations

Cover your coughs and sneezes

Keep disinfectant wipes in the office

Encourage employees to disinfect their personal work space

This strategy isn’t just great for flu season; it can help prevent illness throughout the year.

Bonus Tip: Reminders work! According to one study, hand washing reminders improved compliance across all employee groups.

Disinfect More Frequently to Kill Germs

Professional cleaning service is one of the fastest ways to slow the spread of influenza. Regular cleaning, though, isn’t always enough. Although using a professional cleaning service will help to slow the spread of influenza, cleaning alone doesn’t disinfect surfaces.

That’s why it’s important to work with your commercial cleaning company during flu season on a disinfectant program. Many surfaces in your office should be disinfected regularly during flu season, including:

Office supplies like staplers

Computers and copiers

Phones and handsets

Shared furniture, e.g. conference room tables and chairs

Door knobs and handles

Common areas

Having a commercial cleaning service professionally disinfect your work space routinely is the most-effective flu prevention tactic. Proper disinfecting kills 90% of germs, including the flu virus. That’s why during flu season, your commercial cleaning program should include regular disinfecting services.

7 Office Cleaning Tips to Maintain Employees’ Productivity

There are a lot of workplace factors that affect the productivity levels of your employees. From their coworkers to their work environment, all can contribute to how much work employees are able to do and whether they are able to produce it well.

With that said, one of the significant factors that contribute to employee productivity is how clean and tidy their work space is. Thus, it is vital that you as an employer keep track of the cleanliness and organization of the workplace.

Whether you opt for commercial cleaning services or not, it helps that you apply the following cleaning tips below. When you keep these in mind, you are a sure help to the productivity of the employees in the office. Here’s your 7 office cleaning tips!

1. Organize files and folders

One office cleaning tip that is sure to influence the productivity of your employees is how the office organizes paperwork. Often, people who receive paperwork may tend to leave the said paperwork right on their desk even after they’re done with it.

When you keep this habit, you may end up unable to find important files right when you need them and it can cause a delay in business operations. With that in mind, it is always a good idea to teach employees about the proper home of each file and folder.

Communicating how the filing system works is key so that no one person is responsible for organizing files and folders. Don’t cause delays in the flow of information in the office and encourage your employees to organize their paperwork.

2. Clean all electronic devices regularly

More often than not, an office has a constant use for electronic devices. Given the frequent usage that these devices receive, it’s a shame that not a lot of them receive regular cleaning.

An electronic device that is kept clean on a regular basis lasts longer and is less prone to hardware malfunctions due to dust or dirt accumulation. Aside from that, you also remove the germs that come into contact with your employees.

Regular cleaning of electronic devices not only increases productivity by ensuring that all tools work as they should. It also boosts productivity by reducing sick days caused by the spreading of germs.

3. Declutter your desk

The desk is the second home of employees when they clock in for work every day because this is the place where they stay at most frequently. Even though this is the case, some employees tend to take that fact for granted.

Little do a lot of people know, how one’s desk looks can affect their focus and work quality without them being aware of it. Therefore, a cluttered desk can be a distraction and an added obstacle to being able to buckle down and do one’s work.

Thus, when keeping employees’ productivity in mind, always check to make sure that they make it a habit to declutter their desk every now and then.

4. Keep common areas clean

The office space is a busy place that receives constant foot traffic and is occupied on a regular basis. With that in mind, it is important that you keep the common areas of the office clean because these are places that plenty of employees pass through.

Seeing clutter and dirt in common areas can distract and even lower job satisfaction among your employees. Common areas aren’t just used for lounging after all. Sometimes it’s used to do work at a different environment away from the desk.

By staying on top of the cleanliness of these common rooms, you go a long way to maintaining overall cleanliness in the office as well as the levels of productivity of employees.

5. Keep the kitchen/cafeteria clean

The office kitchen or the pantry is a place where most employees eat and keep their food. Aside from that, this is a place where people keep common office cutleries that a lot of people use.

Make sure that you encourage office kitchen etiquette by setting up reminders such as cleaning dishes that they use instead of leaving them in the sink untouched. Also, if you see expired food in the refrigerator, whether or not it was yours, to begin with, encourage employees to throw them away.

A clean kitchen makes for a healthier employee. A healthier employee is more productive and professional.

6. Empty the trash cans daily

Nobody likes throwing away something into the trash only to find that it’s already full. Although nobody likes to see a full waste bin. Not a lot of people will initiate throwing them away either.

With that said, encourage your employees to make the habit of emptying waste bins on a daily basis. To better set this habit up, set a specific time for it. A great time to do this is right before they go home from work.

Setting this habit up encourages employees to be more mindful. At the same time, it teaches them to be more responsible and clean their office space.

7. Hire professional office cleaners

There are just some things that can’t be solved by grit and rules and regulations. Sometimes, you need to enlist the help of professionals to do the job for you. You’ll find that hiring professionals like Hercules Services can be more effective and efficient in solving your problems.
